GERMAN city of Kernen has donated medical equipment and consumables to three hospitals in a development that is expected to improve health delivery in Masvingo. Masvingo city has a twinning arrangement with the city of Kernen, which dates back to over 15 years.
The Kernen Masvingo Association donated an ambulance to Runyararo Maternity Home in the city while Masvingo General, Runyararo and Morgenster mission hospitals received medical equipment and consumables such as bandages, nurses’ uniforms, hospital beds, incubators and wheelchairs, among other items.
The medical equipment was sourced from various institutions and individual well-wishers in the city of Kernen. Kernen Masvingo Association chairman Mr Chrishan Flietcher said the people of Kernen would continue to assist their Masvingo counterparts towards improving the health delivery system.
He hailed the excellent relationship that exists between the two cities and emphasised on the need to further expand their co-operation. “We are very happy to have a special relationship with the people of Masvingo and we want to assure you that the people of Kernen will continue to support the people of Masvingo in whatever way is possible,” said Mr Flietcher.
The donation of medical equipment to Masvingo hospitals is just one of the many ways we can express our appreciation of the relationship between our peoples.”
The acting chairperson of the Masvingo City Council caretaker commission, Mr Alphonce Chikurira, who received the donation on behalf of the three hospitals, described the gesture as an indication of the ever-growing relationship between the two cities.
